Health insurance continues during the qualifying FMLA leave period with the College and the employee paying their regular contributions, provided such insurance was provided before the leave was taken. Employees should consult with Human Resources concerning these payments before taking the leave. If paid leave is substituted for unpaid FMLA leave, health insurance and other premiums will continue to be deducted from the employee’s paycheck as normal. In some instances, the College may recover premiums it paid to maintain health coverage for an employee who fails to return to work following FMLA leave.
