9.44 Personal Leaves of Absences

Personal leave is any unpaid leave of absence not covered under the College’s other paid and unpaid leave policies. A personal leave may be approved for study, professional improvement or other reasons deemed acceptable by the College. Personal leave is granted at the sole discretion of the College. It must not disrupt the College’s operations and may be cancelled, restricted, or limited at any time for business necessity.

Non-medical leaves are eligible for pay only to the extent that vacation accrual is available to the employee.

Other forms of College-provided leave will not accrue while on unpaid personal leave, nor will the employee be eligible for paid holidays.

Eligibility to continue participation in and election of group benefit plans while on a personal leave of absence is governed by the plan or policy. For an unpaid leave longer than 30 days, continuation rights will be offered for health benefits at the employee’s expense and other benefits will be suspended unless the employee arranges to pay all costs of coverage.
